Microsoft on the back-end

TimeFiler runs on a Windows server, and is based around:

Microsoft SQL Server.
Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
Windows Service/Application Server that communicates directly with end-user web browsers using standard web protocols including SSL.

Multi-browser support for the front-end

TimeFiler is 100% web-based so there are no applications to install - all employees need is an internet connection and a web browser.

Ajax web technology

TimeFiler uses the latest web technologies to ensure it runs quickly and efficiently on the web:

Ajax, a set of development techniques standardised over the past eight years, brings sophisticated interfaces to web applications. This improves the user experience since there are no time delays due to page refreshes, and data entry is made quick and simple.
Nothing gets downloaded to the browser, except standard web files and messages.

Reporting is 100% SSRS

TimeFiler reports are run using SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) which is a trusted reporting tool already understood to users of Microsoft SQL Server.

TimeFiler builds on SSRS within the application to provide the following benefits:

Easy to get basic output from TimeFiler, without having to write a single report. All grid views can be immediately outputted to SSRS as either a PDF, HTML, or true Excel. The employee will get what they see in the view - nothing less, nothing more.
Most standard reports can be easily configured without having to write a SSRS report via Visual Studio.
Provides the ability to override TimeFiler reports, and integrate with other databases (for example, payroll, billing, CRM etc) through Visual Studio. TimeFiler can export the RDL file as a great starting point.
TimeFiler takes ownership for gathering report parameter information securely, making the calls to the SSRS engine, and showing the results. The web browser therefore does not need to directly access SSRS. To the end user, it is all part of TimeFiler.
TimeFiler knows how to respect employee level security in terms of which employees can see who. And this seamlessly flows through into reporting without having to create multiple reports.
All reports can be e-mailed, regardless of whether your edition of SQL Server supports report e-mailing or not.
